3 April 2014 – More than 50 participants gathered at Duxton Hotel Saigon for a special workshop on “Energy Efficiency”, part of the monthly Raffles Night business networking event, organized by the Singapore Business Group.

Mr. Praveen Tekchandani, a Product Specialist and an Auditor for environmental products, represented TUV-SUD to share his insights about a greener future via Energy Efficiency and Carbon Footprint.

Investing in Energy Efficiency, according to Mr. Tekchanadani, will save more than 40% financial cost for the institution while reducing the emission and conserving the resource as well as protecting the environment. He also introduced to the guests about ISO 50001, a system based initiative to conserve energy in institutions to ensure all the tasks are conducted effectively while energy consumption is reduced, thus lowering the energy cost.

In the second part of the workshop, Ms. Vu Tuong Anh, an Energy Efficiency and Cleaner Production specialist from International Finance Corporation, World Bank Group, discussed about investment in Energy Efficiency  and Cleaner Production (EE CP) to improve competitiveness for enterprises. Investment to save 1Kwh, Ms. Anh explained, is statistically proved to be three times lower than investment to produce 1 more Kwh.

With energy costs rising and not likely to drop, it truly does make business sense to adopt energy efficient practices and technology to save cost and consequently improve profits. And apart from cost saving measures, the efficient use of energy contributes towards the preservation of the environment.

Ms. Phan Thi Anh Thu, Marketing Manager from Le & Associates, commented “This is my first time attending SBG events. I find it quite useful for business networking. On the other hand, I also got to know more about the environment and surprisingly how it could help to reduce financial cost.”

This workshop was also co-hosted with the Chambers of Commerce and Business Associations of Malaysia, Thailand, Hongkong, Indonesia and China.
